speakers
Nick Ross CBE, of Crimewatch fame: “Don’t have nightmares, do sleep well” – and many other news programmes and documentaries for the BBC, both tv and radio, spanning 40 years.
Away from broadcasting he has a wide range of philanthropic involvements, centred on medical ethics as well as promoting science and evidence-led health-care. He has played a leading role in social action campaigns, most notably crime prevention. His idea of “Crime Science” promoting a practical, multidisciplinary and outcome-focused approach to crime reduction is being developed at a number of universities, in the UK and abroad.
Charlie Taylor, Chief Inspector of Prisons: as we all know is never afraid to speak his mind on the state of prisons!
The job is enormous as it covers all the prisons and other (border force) detention centres in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Last September Parliament agreed to the printing of the annual report (year ending March 2024) which is available online (gov.uk) and demonstrates the scale of the Inspectorate’s task.
